About “From Blood And Ash”

From blood and Ash was the winner of the GoodReads 2020 romance category awards. The book has been so popular that I was eager to read it. Here’s what I thought after finishing it.

Poppy’s story is told through blood and ash. She is called the “Maiden”, the “Chosen One” by gods, and she carries the entire empire’s weight. Poppy’s existence is limited. There is no interaction with others, friends, or going out at night. Even less, the ability to take off the veil before people. You live a life that is completely cut off until your Ascension.

Things are not going well in the kingdom. Monstrous creatures are attacking and killing anyone they can, and after several Poppy guards were killed, they placed Hawke in Hawke’s place. Hawke is a mysterious guard that claims to be the best in Capital.

He is different from everyone else. He views Poppy as more that just a Maiden. Her playful personality and overwhelming appearance tug at Poppy’s heart strings and lead her to a dangerous place she has never been before.

It is a highly addictive read, with blood and ash as the main characters. It was not something I expected to like, so I was afraid of it. It has exceeded my expectations, even though I was expecting something else.

We have Poppy on the one hand. She is an 18-year-old girl who was kept in prison until her Ascension Day. His personality isn’t lazy. She is a young lady who wants to be independent, to try new things and to escape the four walls that have kept her captive for most of her adult life. In From blood and Ash, we see a determined protagonist who is eager to live her life.

Hawke, the guard has been quite a sight. Her mystery-filled personality is captivating and she will not cease challenging Poppy to uncover her innocent side. Her vivacious personality as well as her determination and protection have captured my attention.

Opinion of a personal observer

From blood and Ash was the winner of the GoodReads 2020 romance category awards. The book has been so popular that I was eager to read it. Here’s what I thought after finishing it.

Poppy’s story is told through blood and ash. She is called the “Maiden”, the “Chosen One” by gods, and she carries the entire empire’s weight. Poppy’s existence is limited. We have Poppy on the one hand. She is an 18-year-old girl who was kept in prison until her Ascension Day. His personality isn’t lazy. She is a young woman who wants freedom, experimentation and to break free from the four walls that have held her captive for most of her adult life. In From blood and Ash, we see a determined protagonist who is determined to live her life.

The guard has been quite a sight, from blood and ash hawkeHawke to the guard. She is full of mystery and never stops challenging Poppy to find the innocent side of her. Her vivacious personality as well as her determination and protection have captured my attention.

It’s a fact I will repeat. It doesn’t matter who you are. I care about you.

It is fantasy, but the romance has lots of protagonism. It was very enjoyable to watch Poppy and Hawke develop a relationship. From a foundation of trust, they became enemies and then became lovers with passion and attraction. It has made me laugh, frustrate, and felt myriad emotions. Jennifer L. Armentrout reigns supreme when it comes to romance.

“If you listen to my voice, I believe the stars will fall if you are willing to listen.”

The plot was a mystery to me. I was lost for the first 180 pages in From blood and Ash. It’s the ability to imagine a new world with amazing things and kingdoms that are divided by different people. Although I didn’t put you into the world directly, I was able to see how it worked as I read more.

Yes, I have seen unsolved issues, or things that I didn’t quite understand. All of this is going to be explained in the next books, however. The author also stated that she would soon remove the fourth installment of the From blood, ash saga.

But, aside from that, I must say that I think the author has written a unique story that is tightly linked and doesn’t lack for emotion or action. The romantic scenes and battle scenes are well-written and beautifully described. The author’s experience in writing From blood and Ash was evident in the book. It flowed naturally and without being forced.

The narrative isn’t as dynamic as in Witch Killer. Jennifer L. Armentrout’s thoughts on the protagonist felt too long to me. It is written in 1st-person from Poppy’s perspective, and there was a lack of balance between descriptions and dialogues. It was also to help the protagonist understand her situation and get inside her head.

I was stunned by the last pages. The plot twist in From blood and Ash was unexpected and left me open-mouthed. You start to notice that something is coming, but it was not what you expected. Jennifer L. Armentrout has finished it with this ending and it leaves readers wanting more.

“Nothing is easy.” It’s not easy.

The story of From blood and Ash is a wonderful read full of action and romance. The plot is original, well-written and has a twist that will shock you. This is a wonderful book that I loved and it led me to the next installment in the series. It is a book I highly recommend. Yes! Give him the chance.

Penellaphe, “With my sword, my life, and my sword, I promise to keep your safe,” he said softly, reminding me of rich and decadent chocolate. “I am yours from this moment until the end.
